Rita Cleary Patounas, age 76, of Delmar and Queens, NY, was called home to God on February 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her devoted longtime partner, Mike DeVarnne; her daughter, Alexandra Patounas; her son, Michael Patounas (Tiffany); and the great joys of her life—her grandchildren: Iris (Alexandra); and Tyler, Noah, and Theo (Michael and Tiffany). Rita was blessed to have known deep and enduring love in her lifetime. She built her family during her many years with Theseas Patounas, who predeceased her, and later found lasting companionship and joy with Mike, who stood by her with love and devotion.
Rita grew up in Queens, NY and was a devoted mother who built a career in real estate before answering a deeper call to service as an Albany County paramedic. She continued her passion for caring for others through her work in the transfer unit at Albany Medical Center, always offering compassion and steady support to those in need.
Her greatest joy was her family. She also cherished time spent gardening, cooking, sharing delicious food, and living her faith. Her heart was always thinking of others.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 16, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave. Delmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl. Delmar.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing her love remains with us always. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched.
