Rita Jean Doughty (McDonald, Baynai) died Saturday, September 18, in Riverview, Michigan at the age of 93. Known as Jean to her family and friends, she had a large circle of people who loved her generous spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, and her kind heart. This circle included a lifelong group of high school friends who referred to themselves as the "Slick Chicks", and who remained friends for over 70 years.
Jean was born on November 12, 1927 to Angus McDonald and Mary (Gillis) in Detroit. She grew up there, along with her late sister Helene, and spent the majority of her life in the area. Jean married Dr. Stephen Baynai and together they had seven children.
Mary Couzens (James), Stephen (the late Pamela), Deborah Lamsma (John), Michael (Donna), Bradley (MaryBeth), Paul (Patty), and Gerald (Janice). She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with the love of many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean later married the late Warren Doughty and they spent more than twenty wonderful years soaking up the Florida sunshine. Her laughter, thoughtfulness, and her love of family and friends will be treasured forever. Jean was a devout Catholic and her deep love of the church and Jesus guided her through all her days.
