Rita Golter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Healy Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services - Aurora Facility on Aug. 8, 2025.
Our wonderful mother, Rita Golter - also known as "Omi" (German for Grandma) - passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 7, 2025 at home. She was 87. Though her health had been declining, she faced each day with courage, determination, and her trademark upbeat spirit. Every night we prayed for her continued comfort, and every day with her truly felt like a gift. Her warm smile, cheerful "Hallo," and her joy in life touched so many. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Rita was a WWII baby born in Germany in 1937. She came to America in 1959 intending to stay for a short period to learn English - but Cupid had other plans. On Valentine's Day in Chicago in 1961, she met Hermann, a fellow German immigrant. They married six months later and built a beautiful life together.

It always feels too soon, even when we know the time is near. But she was ready to join Hermann and watch over us with love from a beautiful and peaceful place. Per her wishes, we'll be honoring her with a simple, private burial.

For those who wish to acknowledge her life and your friendships, please consider a small donation to the Hermann & Rita Golter Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley https://www.cffrv.org/profile/golter-scholarship/

We are very saddened to learn about your mom's passing. Years ago, we had many interesting conversations after church with her and your dad, but after he died, we didn't see her as often until Our Savior began having Taize services where she read the scriptures in German, and I, Art, read them in Spanish. Once again, we had many great chats with her after those services. She told us the story about meeting your dad and remember how touching it was. She certainly lived life to its fullest, and we feel very fortunate and blessed to have known her. With deepest sympathy, Art and Jan Fisher

I also enjoyed seeing and visiting with Rita in the neighborhood and at the Association Meetings. May you all find comfort in knowing she touched many others lives.
