Rita Mary Valentino Kilcolm was born and raised in South Philadelphia, only steps away from Saint Rita's, where her devout Catholic faith began. Rita was the youngest of six, one sister and four brothers, together sharing the love of their Italian heritage. Rita enjoyed a dance floor and wasn't shy to grab a microphone to belt out one of her favorite tunes. It was at a dance where Rita met the love of her life, a tall Scotch-Irishman, Jack Kilcolm. Jack and Rita built a life together, initially over the bridge in Jersey, yet South Philly kept calling her back, and were fortunate to settle in Saint Monica's parish. They were blessed with their son Jack, who was their world. Together as a family, they forged many lifelong friendships in the neighborhood. Devoted to her family, through the years, Rita took the role of family matriarch, bringing everyone together, hosting countless weekly dinners and holidays, sharing laughs, and creating memories. Rita and the "gang from Mole St." attended mass and events at St. Monicas, Pokeno, dining out, always baking and creating meals, and sharing laughs, and each other's company. Rita was passionate about her Philadelphia sports, enjoying her Phillies and Eagles especially when the teams were doing well, otherwise enjoyed sharing in the Philly fan trash talking. A three-time breast cancer survivor, Rita was steadfast in her faith, devotion and mantra of never giving up. Rita faced life with resilience exemplifying graceful will power in whatever life presented. Faith was a cornerstone of Rita's life. A devout Catholic, she was often found with her rosary in hand or prayer cards, it is befitting she entered heaven on the feast of the Epiphany. To have Rita in your life was a blessing, we will cherish our memories, miss her dearly, and and be certain that heaven has a new angel.
