Rita (Dubois) Picard of Madawaska passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 2, 2024 at her Ridgewood home. She was born in Madawaska on March 6, 1932 to Paul and Marie (Clavette) Dubois.
She married Bert Picard on September 1, 1955 and had two children, Glen Picard (spouse Patty) of Madawaska and Marie Sullivan (spouse Bret) of Gray.
She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Fort Kent Teacher's College/UMFK and taught 2nd/3rd Grades in the Madawaska school system for 35 years. She was a member of Daughters' of Isabella and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children and her siblings, Blanche Roix, Eunice Seavey and Bob Dubois as well as her grandchildren Mike Sullivan (wife Vanessa) of Readfield, Todd Sullivan of West Gardiner, Jaymi Martel (spouse William and son Brandon) of Lewiston, Nate Picard (spouse Katryn) of Gray, Allison Stevens (spouse Cory and son Isaiah and daughters Selah and Naomi) of Boiling Springs SC, Logan Ouellette (spouse Amber and daughter Kayci) of Dayton, Ryan Picard (significant other Becca Platz) of Poland and Cody Ouellette (spouse Chelsea and sons Parker, Grayson and Emerson) of Caswell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings Bernice Vaillancourt, Louis Dubois, Gerald Dubois, Albe Dubois, Rella Paradis, and Jean Martin.
Rita will be remembered for her strong and devout faith, hard work ethic, and love of teaching. She loved to join and participate in many activities. She enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts/blankets. She loved playing cards, especially charlemagne. She loved her family unconditionally and will be deeply missed.
We want to thank the entire staff of Ridgewood Estates for their compassion and loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita's memory to Ridgewood Estates – Activity Department (480 Ridgewood Avenue Madawaska ME).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Thursday, August 8 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Madawaska, ME.
