Rita P. Smith, age 84, of McSherrystown, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 at the Gardens at Gettysburg.
Rita was born in Hanover, PA on March 13, 1940 and was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary P. "Tish" (Fink) Smith. She worked for Middleburg Manufacturing Co. and Sonoco Products and was a parishioner of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in McSherrystown, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the K of C in McSherrystown and the McSherrystown Senior Center. Rita was also an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan.
Rita is survived by her siblings Agnes Bevenour and husband Kenneth of New Oxford, William Smith of McSherrystown, Samuel Smith of McSherrystown, and Mary Jane Rankin and husband Kenneth of McSherrystown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Richard Lyons as celebrant. She will be laid to rest following the Mass at Annunciation B.V.M. Cemetery in McSherrystown. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 with prayers at 7:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rita's memory may be made to Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, 26 N. Third St., McSherrystown, PA 17334.
