Rita Stohr, 83, beloved wife of Walter Stohr, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Meriden Health and Rehab. Born in Meriden, CT, she was the daughter of the late Guido and Carmel (Bonazinga) Mattesini and resided in Meriden. She attended Mt. Carmel Elementary school and graduated from St. Thomas Aquines High School in New Britain. She was extremely hard-working and was employed by Travelers Insurance and a manager at CBT Bank. Rita was a parishioner of Mt. Carmel Church.
Rita loved to go hiking and take long walks on the beach. She loved her Friday night friend group where they would laugh and enjoy each other's company. She also enjoyed making Christmas cookies and spending time with her family.
Besides her husband, Walter, she is survived by her daughter Christine Benedetti; her stepdaughters, Laurye Nestohr and Nanci Handy; her grandson, Connor Oakes; her sister, Santa Brooks and her brother, John Mattesini. She is also survived by many cousins including Frances Giuliano, and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least she leaves behind her furry friend, Heidi. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Mattesini.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
