Rita Wade

1928 - 2026

Rita H. Wade, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 97. Born on January 28th, 1928, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Rita lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Rita devoted much of her life to being a homemaker, where she created a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Her passion for tennis was evident as she remained an avid player until the age of eighty. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. Her commitment to her community was demonstrated through her many years of volunteer service at the Greensboro History Museum.

A woman of deep faith, Rita and her husband, Vincent, were active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1968, where she found fellowship and spiritual nourishment.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, L. Vincent Wade; her grandson, Hunter Edwards; and her son-in-law, Steve McConnell. She is survived by her loving daughters, Nancy W. McConnell of Tucson, Arizona, and Anne-Berry Wade, along with her husband, John Perritt of Clayton. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Michael McConnell and his wife, Kaylee, and Daniel McConnell and his wife, Hannah. Rita was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Tucker Wade McConnell and Ansley Grace McConnell, who brought immense joy to her later years.

A celebration of life will be held at two o'clock on Saturday, January 24th, 2025 in Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or AuthoraCare Hospice of Greensboro, in honor of Rita's memory and her dedication to her faith and community.

Rita H. Wade will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
