Robin Ransom Obituary
Meredosia - Robin "Racer" Rob Ransom, 64, of Meredosia, IL, took his last breath on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 8, 1961, the son of Roland and Doris (Rausch) Ransom. Rob married Rona Brown on December 26, 2002 and she survives in Meredosia.
He also leaves behind his three children, Jared D. (Cassie) Ransom, Jordan T. Goldsborough (Chelsea Turner), and Brittnie (Dan) Morrell; grandchildren, Rhett, Cloe, Eric, Isaac, and Elizabeth; brother, Richard Ransom; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Roland (surviving wife Brenda) and Monica (surviving husband Tom Sturgeon).
For most of his life, Rob worked at National Starch for 22 years as a Boilermaker (484). He had also traveled as a Boilermaker (965) for seven years, owned R&R Saloon in Meredosia for five years, and then finally had his own business mowing with his grandson Isaac, called Ransom Lawn & Order. Rob liked to tinker with everything or would just make something up like building a cannon, he was always full of ideas. He had also served on the Village of Meredosia Board for about nine years.
Rob loved to ride and race horses, hunting ducks, fishing, and trapping furs. He also loved baseball and basketball, and the kids he coached. He was always willing to help someone and never met a stranger. Rob was always one to come back at you with a quick remark or give you a hard time; he never lacked in coming back with a quick answer.
Rob was well loved by his grandchildren, who he would make sure to wind up before they went back home. He will be very missed by many.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Meredosia Community Center. The family will meet friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to the Meredosia Rescue Squad. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at buchanancody.com. "Till we meet again my love."
