Robbie Mark Johnson, a cherished resident of Galax, Virginia, passed away on May 4, 2025, at the age of 65. Robbie was born on April 13, 1960, in Saltville, Virginia to the late Ira Johnson and Edna Ruth Davidson Johnson. Robbie's journey through life was marked by his warm spirit and his boundless affection for those around him.
A graduate of the Smyth County Adult Training Center, Robbie was known for his kindness and gentle nature. He had a special love for children, whose laughter seemed to bring him endless joy. In addition to his passion for the young ones, he found delight in watching cars drive by and had a particular fondness for sports and the simple pleasure of throwing things. His unique taste extended to his favorite snacks, where pickled pigs' feet and potted meat held a special place, along with a love for buttermilk. In fact, he was well-known among his friends and family as someone who could manage to swipe a cup of coffee if it happened to be left unattended.
In addition to his parents, Robbie was preceded in death by siblings, Ira Johnson, Jr., Erney Lee Johnson, Rodney Ira Johnson and Teresa Dale Johnson.
Robbie leaves behind siblings Rick Allen Johnson and his wife, Kathy, Claude Johnson and his wife, Frances, and Lesa Long and her husband, Ed, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored him. He shared a special bond with his niece, Haven, and found immense companionship with Chris and Melissa Sumner, who he regarded as a brother and sister. Additionally, Scott and Priscilla Mays were treasured friends who enriched his life and former employees and staff of Southwest Virginia Training Center.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Wall Residences for their exceptional care of Robbie.
The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Joe Wilson officiating. The burial will be held at Mahanaim Cemetery, 32042 Taos Lane, Meadowview, VA at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
