Robert Abrams Obituary

Rev. Abrams, 87, of 319 North Main Street, Boiling Springs, NC, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, he was affiliated with Gardner-Webb University for 23 years and served in a number of administrative positions including Director of Admissions, Director of Church Relations and Registrar. He was a pastor and interim pastor for a number of churches throughout North and South Carolina. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and served on a number of church committees. He was currently teaching the Bob Abrams Sunday School Class. He had been a member of the Boiling Springs Lions Club since 1962 and served as past president for a number of terms. Rev. Abrams recived an Associate in Arts degree from Boiling Springs College (now Gardner-Webb University) in 1942; a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College (now Wake Forest University) in 1944 and a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1947. Rev. Abrams was preceded in death by his parents Fred Lee Abrams & Sallie Nash Abrams, his wife Elva Spake Abrams, and a sister Jessie Roddy. Rev. Abrams is survived by a son and his wife Lee Abrams & Dorothy of Rutherfordton, NC, three daughters Jean A. Haynes of the home, Kay A. Husky of Yokohama, Japan, and Mary A. Lewis and husband Kenneth of Cordele, GA. In addition to these he is also survived by a brother and his wife Glenn & Evelyn Abrams, a sister and her husband Floy & Evelyn Abrams, and a brother-in-law James Roddy all of Rutherfordton, NC. His grandchildren are Rick Whitaker & wife Patti, Chelsey Abrams, Lindy Abrams, Holden Abrams & wife Whitney, and Marshall Abrams. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Carroll Page pastor of Boiling Springs Baptist church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church, P. O. Box 197, Boiling Springs, NC 28017, or Gardner - Webb University, Christian Service Organization, Boiling Springs, NC 28017.
