Robert J. Adams, age 87, of
Berkley, MI passed away on February 15, 2024. He died peacefully at home of natural causes. Bob was born in
Detroit, MI on April 9, 1936, the son of proud Lithuanian-Americans William and Mary Adams. He attended Catholic Central High School, then college at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he was captain of the Titans golf team his senior year.
After serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, and a stint in the family real estate business, Bob attended Detroit College of Law. After graduating from law school in 1965, he hung out his legal shingle and kept it out for over 58 years. Bob was an outstanding attorney and he delivered first-class legal services to his clients for almost 6 decades. He closed his last client file in 2023 – the end of a legal era.
Bob married the wonderful Josephine Adams in 1960. Together they raised 5 accomplished children and had many local and worldwide adventures. Josie passed away in 2017 after 56 years of marriage, and Bob missed her dearly. Among Bob's many talents and accomplishments were his love of golfing, traveling (especially to Las Vegas, where he was a superb craps player), growing Golden Bantam sweet corn, and spending time with Josie and their large family - both at their home in Berkley and their cottage in Clare County, MI. He especially loved deer hunting in northern Michigan each fall. Bob boasted that he did not miss an "Opening Day" in the past 60 years, and he established that November 15 is a major holiday in the Adams Family. Bob loved and followed the band The Four Freshman since his college days, and he was a dedicated member of their fan club. Tonight, he will be "Walkin' his baby back home."
Bob diligently practiced his strong Catholic faith and for over 53 years was a parish member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church in Royal Oak, MI. Bob's family prays that his deep faith will be rewarded with a prompt journey into heaven. Bob is survived by his 5 children: Mark (Denise), Elaine Kelley, Tom (Anne), Paul (Heather) and Carl (Carrie); and his 9 grandchildren: Luke, Clare, Erica, Katherine, Grace, Martha, Abigail, Elizabeth and Emily; and his little sister Evelyn (Adams) McAnelly. He was preceded in death by his brother William Adams and his baby granddaughter Avery Adams.
Bob's family will receive guests at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 12 Mile Rd,
Berkley, MI 48072, on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
