Robert Amick Obituary

Published by Rose Mortuaries & Cremation - Desert Hot Springs on Jul. 5, 2020.
Robert Lee Amick, Jr. May 16, 1970 – July 5, 2020 To be a companion of Robert Lee Amick, Jr. was to share in his quiet strength. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, on July 5, 2020, Rob found his peace in the comfort of his home, surrounded with love by family and friends. Rob was born on May 16, 1970 in Lancaster, California to Sylvia (Torres) Amick and Robert Amick. As a young boy growing up in Quartz Hill, California, he was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and mischievousness. He met his wife, Elisabeth Arlene Elder in 2001 and they were united in a beautiful Southern- style ceremony on June 4, 2005. On October 19, 2006, they joyfully welcomed the birth of their identical twin boys, Collin and Ian. Aside from his devotion to his wife and family, Rob loved soccer, Manchester United being his favorite team. He also found great enjoyment driving his prized red vintage 911 Porsche. Through these two passions, he gained two additional groups of faithful friends that he matter- of-factly referred to as "My Soccer Friends" and "My Driving Friends". A number of his closest friends later in his life were members of the R Gruppe, an elite Porsche Driving Club that Rob became a member of in 2016. Rob's considerate nature, sense of humor and positive attitude endeared him to all.  The encouragement he received while grappling with the numerous challenges of cancer was as heartfelt as it was immense.   He was infinitely proud of his wife and two boys. Among the highlights of his everyday life was that of simply sharing time with Arlene, Collin, Ian, (their family pets), his immediate family as well his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. His presence and warmth will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He was the best husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend anyone could ever ask for. Rob is preceded in death by his father, Robert Amick, his father-in-law, James Elder, his grandparents, John & Cecile Amick, Anthony & Virginia Torres, and his infant nephew Ian Geoffrey Durboraw.     He is survived by his wife Arlene, who provided monumental love, support, and care around the clock, his cherished sons Ian and Collin, mother Sylvia Amick, sisters Catherine Amick and Sandie Durboraw, (Geoff), their children Rachel & Clay, Mother-in-law Rachel Buckmelter (Jeffrey), sister-in-laws Hannah Elder Buffington, (Benji) and their children, Sarah Elder (Justin Bowen Taylor), brothers-in-laws Donovan Elder, (Katy), their children, Kyle Elder (Paige), and their daughter, Duncan Elder, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.   The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the dedicated doctors, nurses, and medical technicians who graciously imparted their expertise to help Rob during his three-year battle with cancer. We were blessed to have met a true angel on this journey, Dr. Ben Mahdi. As Rob's primary care doctor and a fellow car enthusiast, the trusted bond they shared made the hardships seem so much less. Thank you, Dr. Mahdi, for your humanity.   In the spirit of Rob and to celebrate his life and legacy, the family would like to invite those who knew him to participate in a drive on Saturday, July 18, 2020, in honor of his favorite activity. This special day of remembrance will start with a drive-through reception and an invitation for family and friends to enjoy one of his favorite routes along Hwy 74. Please email [email protected] for details.   For those wishing to send memorial gifts or flowers, we ask that you consider contributing to the trust fund established to benefit Collin and Ian at GoFundMe.com "Robert Amick".   Online condolences can be made in care of Rose Mortuary www.rosemortuary.net
