Robert Armenta Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 7, 2024.
Robert "Bob" Armenta
August 10, 1946 - January 24, 2024
Robert "Bob" Armenta passed away at home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born on August 10, 1946 in San Bernardino, California. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances and their 2 sons, Robert (Eric Mooney), Michael (Rebecca) and their 2 grandchildren, Mikey Armenta and Sophia Armenta. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Virginia Avila and Esther Gomez. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family who loved him dearly. He and Frances were honored to be ninos (godparents) to many children in the family.
Bob worked at Kaiser Steel for 15 years as a shift foreman. After Kaiser Steel closed down in 1984, he was hired by the San Bernardino City Unified School District as a welder and after 26 years of service, retired as the Deferred Maintenance Supervisor. Bob was also a credentialed vocational instructor and taught welding classes for the San Bernardino Adult School for 27 years in the evenings and on Saturdays. He loved teaching and stayed in touch with many of his students who would still call him, especially during the holidays, to thank him and tell him how well they were doing in their jobs. Bob could have been a sports or political analyst because he was so well versed in each and loved both subjects. He loved USC football, the Lakers, the Dodgers and the old Baltimore Colts.
His grandson, Mikey, started calling him "Bahka" as a baby and "Bahka" he was from that day forward. He was always extremely proud of his sons and always had a story to share about their professions and accomplishments. He and Frances lived in Colton for 20 years and in Grand Terrace for 33 years. He was named Citizen of the Year for Colton in 1988. Bob coached at Ken Hubbs Little League and the Junior All-American Football league for many years.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them, enjoying especially his grandchildren. He and Frances enjoyed simple pleasures together all their married life. Bob was always ready to offer and give a helping hand (or cash) to anyone in need. His was a life well lived. He will always be loved and missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, at Mt. View Mortuary, located at 570 East Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92404.
