Robert Earl Asay

1956 - 2023

Robert Earl Asay, better known as Bob or Papa, passed away peacefully at home with his family surrounding him on Friday, February 24th. Bob was born in Billings, MT on June 3rd, 1956, to Maurice and Mary Maud Asay. Bob was raised in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1974. Bob then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. While on his mission, on a Friday the 13th, Bob and his companion went out in a thunderstorm to take down a flag and was struck by lightning, later waking up in the ICU. Just before coming home from his mission, he proposed to Cheri Renee VonBergen, who was waiting for him; she said yes. Bob and Cheri were sealed for time and all eternity on July 8th, 1977, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Four beautiful children were born to this union; they in turn gave him seven wonderful grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Bob made a career with Corporate Air as a flight follower where he worked for 32 years. Bob retired on October 8th, 2022, after suffering a severe stroke.
Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, Maurice, and Mary Maud Asay and his older sister, Nancy Asay. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheri; his four children – Zachary (Heidi) Asay, Jennifer (Frank) Slevira, Whitney (Jason) McCullum and Benjamin Asay; seven grandchildren: Victoria, Madison, Khloe and Jonathan Slevira, Akira Wilson and Charlotte and Jaxon McCullum; three siblings: Gail (Worthy Sr.) Glover, Laura Asay and David (Lesli) Asay; plus many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 912 Wicks Lane, Sat. March 4, 2023, at 11:30 am.
