Robert "Bob" W. Barger, 92 of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
He was born on June 24, 1933 in Fairland, Indiana to Edgar and Amy (Herald) Barger. He married Sylvia Dale (Adams) Barger on March 5, 1954. She preceded him in passing on September 19, 2024.
Bob is survived by daughter, Debra K. (William) Hallberg of Greenwood; and son, John E. (Julie) Barger of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Dr. Jim Cohen of Zionsville; grandchildren, Amy M. (Klipsch) Sadler (partner, Ryan Rhoads); Ben Cohen (Marisa); Carly (Barger) McCain (Weston) and David Barger; great-grandchildren, Isabella Sadler, Quentin Cohen, Kinley Cohen, Callie Cohen, Jameson McCain and a great-granddaughter- Baby Girl McCain- due in December; step-grandchildren, W. Scott Hallberg (Cynthia) and Agenia (Hallberg) Hurrle (Brian); step-great grandchildren, Brent Hurrle, Matthew Hurrle, Eva Hurrle, Gavin Hurrle, Lyla Rhoads and Clara Rhoads.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and daughter, Barbara A. Cohen and grandchildren, Adam B. Klipsch and Sarah M. Cohen.
Bob was a graduate of Fairland High School, attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and graduated from the Wisconsin School of Banking. He was a banker for thirty-five years, retiring on March 31, 1989.
He was President and Trust Officer with Central Indiana Bank, formerly known as Fairland National Bank. He served as a Past Treasurer of Indiana Bankers Association as well as Past Treasurer for the Fairland Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Past President of Shelby County United Way and Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Bob served on many civic committees in Shelby County. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin where he formerly served as Treasurer. He was a former member of the Franklin Rotary Club.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 3:00 p.m. at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community in the Wright Chapel, 1070 W. Jefferson Street in Franklin with a reception immediately following the service in the Family Room. Inurnment will be at Fairland Cemetery at a later date.
