Buddy Batte, a lifelong member of the Mt. Olive community, passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 86.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Buddy was born on November 3, 1939, to Robert Earl, Sr. and Vermell Hollingsworth Batte in Covington County, Mississippi. Buddy dedicated his life to the farm, where he worked tirelessly as a cattleman and farmer. He possessed an unwavering passion for agriculture and a love for the land. In addition to farming, he was also a craftsman who enjoyed woodworking.
Buddy's greatest joy came from his family. He cherished his loved ones immensely, with his heart growing fonder with the arrival of his grandchildren and later, his great-grandchildren. The love he fostered within his family was evident in every interaction, weaving a tapestry of kindness and support that will be carried on in their lives. Mr. Batte was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Batte.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 63 years, Betty Batte of Mt. Olive; daughter, Rhonda Gaughf (Keith) of Brookhaven; and his son, Jeff Batte of Mt. Olive. The legacy of their Pop will also live on through his grandchildren, Keleigh (Cole) Oglesbee of Columbia, Taylor Gaughf of North Dakota; and his great-grandchildren, Warren Oglesbee and Sawyer Oglesbee of the home.
