Robert Leonard Bauer

Charlotte, North Carolina - Robert "Bob" Leonard Bauer of Charlotte, formerly of Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024 at Aldersgate where he was a longtime resident.

Bob was born on January 25, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Anne and Leonard Thomas Bauer. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953 earning a BS in Electrical Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart Ellen Meredith Kilpatrick in 1953. After serving two years in the Army at Fort Huachuca, AZ they returned to the Philadelphia area, where Bob joined the family electrical contracting business, L. Bauer Jr. Inc. becoming the President and owner until retirement.

Bob was an avid skier, sailor and private pilot. He and Meredith loved living on the water and enjoyed hosting gatherings at their second home in Avalon, NJ. After retirement, he and Meredith moved to Lake Norman in Cornelius, NC. He was instrumental in the establishment of Waymer Flying Field in Huntersville, a public model plane flying field. He and Meredith moved to Aldersgate in 2010.

Bob will be remembered for his calm demeanor, wonderful sense of humor and love of family. Bob was predeceased by his wife Meredith in 2014. He is survived by his two daughters Virginia Meredith Hunt (James), Ellen Brooke Berg (Gordon); six grandchildren Allison Hogan (Paul), Kenan Hunt (Kade Watts), Davis Hunt (Kristopper Cruz), Graham Hunt, Haley Berg, Grace Berg; two great grandchildren Declan Hogan and Carrig Hogan; brother-in-law Robert Kilpatrick Sr. (Danary Pan); and his beloved cat Piper.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a future date. The family would like to express its appreciation to the caregivers at Aldersgate At Home and Asbury Health & Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte for their compassionate care.
