CARMEL – Robert Gaillard Baugh was born on March 2, 1933, and entered into final rest on April 2, 2024. He was born to Rev. O. P. and Susan Kathleen Brooks Baugh in Warren County, Kentucky.
After the family relocated to Indiana, Bob graduated from Sandusky High School. He continued his education at Purdue University, beginning in 1951 and graduating in 1959 with his BSEE, after both working to earn funds for school and serving in the U.S. Army at 6th Army Headquarters at The Presidio, San Francisco, CA.
The next five years were spent working at the Bendix Missile Division in Mishawaka, IN, helping in the design and development of the TYPHON-LR ship-to-air missile defense system and in the on-going improvement of the TALOS ship-to-air missile.
After returning to Purdue, and earning his MSEE in 1965, Bob was employed by the National Cash Register Company (NCR), Dayton, OH, until his retirement in 1987, serving in various engineering and management positions. Fifteen of those years were spent pioneering the design, development, and manufacture of Large Scale Integrated circuits (LSI computer chips). He returned to Indiana in 1987 and was a Registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Reliability Engineer with the American Society for Quality Control, a member of Eta Kappa Nu Association, and a private pilot. He was a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church since 1965 and served in many leadership roles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Paul Baugh and Ralph Lloyd Baugh; and a nephew, Ralph Michael Baugh. He is survived by one sister, Virginia Baugh Colter (James); four nieces and nephews: Kristina Willhelm (Ryan), Stephanie Wood (Michael), Teresa Haynes (Terry), and Wesley Colter (Cindy); seven grandnieces and nephews: Kathleen Wood, Cassidy Willhelm (Will), Dion Sprinkle-Bouchard, Kailey Heighway (Andrew), William Colter, Tyler Wood, and Kyle Willhelm (Nikki); and three great-grandnieces and two great-grandnephews.
The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carrollton United Methodist Church at 1060 W. US Hwy. 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130, or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Bickford Senior Living in Carmel for their kindness and caring these past two years.
