Robert H. Baumert died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the age of 87. He was born and raised in the village of Howells in northeastern Nebraska. He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a navigator on a B-24 bomber. His missions were flown with the 15th Air Borne over Europe. He was employed by the DuPont Company and retired with over 35 years of service. He spent 10 years at the Martinsville VA Nylon Plant and 25 years at the Textile Research Lab in Wilmington. Duties at these sites included various technical, quality control and management functions. Robert was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for over 40 years. He was a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and a member of the liturgy committee for many years. He participated in several fund drives including soliciting funds for the new church. He is survived after 65 years of marriage by his loving wife, Maxine; children, Rodney (Mary) Baumert of Reading, PA, Susan (Robert) Friedman of Newark, DE, Judith Baumert of Wilmington, DE, Robert (Madalyn) Baumert of Allentown, PA and Patricia (William) Brencher of Lumberton, NJ; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Richard, Loren, Christopher, Melissa, Valerie, Alison, Emily and Michelle; and brother, James (Marianne) of Howells, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Baumert of Howells, NE; sister, Arline Welding of West Point, NE; and granddaughter, Lisa Friedman of Newark, DE. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or the Medical Mission Sisters of Philadelphia, 8400 Pine Road, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
