Robert Becan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 6, 2018.
Robert "Bob" Becan passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Lifepath Hospice at Tampa General Hospital. He was born on September 26, 1954 in Laurelton, New York, to Edward and Elizabeth (Betty Hogan) Becan. He moved to Florida with his parents at age 17 and was a resident of Florida for 47 years. He was a graduate of the University of South Florida in 1977 and was self-employed all his life. Initially, he owned a Baskin Robbins and then his own restaurant. Subsequently, he went into business with his two lifelong friends Pete Pergola and Tom Vito. He married Phyllis Migliara on October 10, 1981 in Brooklyn, New York and had two children, Courtney and Robbie.

Bob enjoyed watching his son Robbie play sports and treasured father-daughter talks with Courtney. He enjoyed watching football and baseball with his good friend Ken. In his younger day, he enjoyed boating and water skiing.

Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter Courtney (son-in-law Alan and step-granddaughter Nova), son Robbie (girlfriend Taylor), his eldest brother Ed (sister-in-law Carol-deceased); older brother John (sister-in-law Loretta), sister Lorraine (brother-in-law Al-deceased), nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

It was Bob's wish that family and friends gather in his name to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, eat and chat. All of you whose lives were touched by Bob are invited to gather at The Rusty Pelican, Saturday, November 3, from 12 Noon – 3 p.m. for this purpose, which will begin with a memorial service. For those of you who are out of state and/or cannot attend, we ask that you join us in spirit with your thoughts and prayers on that day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob's name to the American Kidney Fund at www.kidneyfund.org.
