Robert John "Johnny" Bell (LTC, US Army RET), 79, of Lee County, GA, died May 1, 2024 at Dawson Health and Rehabilitation.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Mr. Ross Powell will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard.
John enlisted in the army at 17 years old and was a HAWK missle repairman.  He played on the All Army Baseball Team for 2 years.  John attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Gordon, Georgia, receiving his commission in 1966.  He served in the Republic of Vietnam from 1968-1969 with the 25th Infantry Division.  His next duty station was in Germany and he later became an Air Defense Artillery officer.  He was stationed at the following Army posts over his 28 year Army career:  Germany, Ft. Bliss, TX, Ft. Lee, VA, Dallas, TX Recruiting Command, and Camp Casey, Korea.  His final assignment with the US Army was with the 11th ADA BDE at Ft. Bliss, TX.  Following his retirement, he was employed by SAIC, Litton Data Systems as a THAAD Program Manager, Northrop Grumman, SIGMATECH, and LESCO.  His education includes graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tampa, and a Masters Degree from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Sina Kay Bell of Lee County, GA, his sons, LTC Robert John Bell II (Anna), and CW4 (RET) James Derek Bell (Keri), all of Huntsville, AL, a brother, James Bell (Chan) of Sale City, GA, his step children, Jimmy Bass (Kelly) of Newnan, GA and Chris Bass (Michelle) of Lee County, GA, his grandchildren, SGT Connor Bell (Heather), Charlie Bell and Owen Bell, Aidyn Bell, Savannah Bell, and Anthony Sawyers all of Huntsville, AL and his step-grandchildren, Harris Bass, Spenser Hewett, both of Newnan, GA, Campbell Bass and Kaylee Bass both of Lee County, GA and his step-great-grandchildren, Eliot Hewett and Rose Hewett.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers, please make memorials in memory of Mr. Bell to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY, 10306.
