Robert Edwin Berglund was born on May 22, 1930 in Cumberland, WI, to Carl G. and Amelia C. (nee Treichel) Berglund. He was raised on a farm in the Town of Johnstown, rural Comstock, WI, received his education at Pipe Lake Grade School, and graduated in 1948 from Turtle Lake High School in Turtle Lake, WI. After high school, Bob worked one year in Minnesota, before becoming employed at the Turtle Lake Times in Turtle Lake. He served in the U.S. Army from March 8, 1951 until his honorable discharge on March 7, 1953, attaining the rank of Corporal. Bob returned to the Turtle Lake Times. He was united in marriage to Florence J. Rodrick on December 30, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they resided in Turtle Lake for 11 years, where he worked at the post office. In 1968, they purchased the Loyal Tribune and Spencer Record newspapers. In 1969, they purchased the Greenwood Gleaner newspaper and combined them to form the Tribune-Record-Gleaner, (TRG), which they operated until selling the business in 1998. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Port Aransas, TX. Bob loved to write, which he continued to do, recently writing his final "Over The Back Fence" column for the TRG, which he began writing at the Turtle Lake Times in 1967.
