Robert Eugene Boe was born July 17, 1926 in Yankton, South Dakota to Harry and Hazel (Mattison) Boe. He grew up on a farm nine miles west of Irene. Bob attended Irene High School for two years and then graduated from Yankton High School in 1944. In the spring of 1945, he was drafted in the United States Army and was stationed in Ft. Sill, OK. Bob was honorably discharged in November of 1946 and then moved back home to help on the farm. He met Ardis Wek in 1948 and they were later married on June 4, 1950. After their marriage, they farmed in the Mayfield and Viborg area until 1963 when they moved into Viborg. Bob worked for M & N Lumber in Viborg for a few years and then at United Building Center in Yankton for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. That same year, they moved to Yankton and Bob had numerous part time jobs where he kept very active. Bob loved working with his hands, whether it was sharpening saws, doing latch hook, or making bread. He also loved watching the birds, squirrels and the traffic going by on Douglas Avenue. He was a hardworking man with a great sense of humor who loved visiting with people and lending a helping hand whenever he could. Bob was very loved and will be very missed.
