Passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 23, 2025, in Battle Creek. Robert was born on August 26, 1941, in Battle Creek, the son of Laverne and Kathleen (Barnes) Russell. Bob had been a lifelong resident of the area. Bob grew up on a farm and raised Champion Red Pole Cattle which he showed at the Calhoun County Fair. As a youngster, Bob attended the Martin Country School, a one room schoolhouse, thru the 4th grade. From there Bob moved on to Lakeview Public Schools. In high school, Bob played football, basketball, and baseball. Graduating from Lakeview in 1959, he then went to trade school and became a licensed Master Plumber. In 1962, he married the former Connie J. Hopkins, who survives. Bob owned and operated Robert J. Russell Plumbing from 1977 until his retirement in 2021. He attended Lakeview Baptist Church, and taught Sunday school. Bob sponsored city league baseball teams at all levels for many years. Surviving are his children, Jeff Russell, Shelly (Jim) Schafer and Chad (Katti) Russell; 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Russell in 2024. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice. www.henryfuneralhome.org
