Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory - StuartRobert J. Smith, 85, passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 7, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Robert "Bob" was born in Springfield Massachusetts to John and Mary Smith. As a young man, Bob enjoyed many sports and was an avid skier and outdoorsman. He loved sailing, boating, and especially deep-sea fishing; passions he developed early in life and carried with him for the rest of his years.
Bob began his career at the Dominic & Dominic brokerage firm in the early 1970s. In the late 1970s, he moved to the trading desk at Merrill Lynch, where he was known among his peers as "Flash" for his quick trading style and his ability to zig when others collectively zagged.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and adored his family. He cherished them and his close friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife Susan Smith of 61 years (they met 65 years ago), his loving children Jennifer Tenaglia and Jonathan Smith, and his loving grandchildren: Nicholas, Lindsey, Keyler, Lucas, Wyatt and Caroline.
Bob will be deeply missed, and we will always cherish his warm spirit and the loving memories he leaves behind.
Service will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Church (623 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart FL 34994) on Wednesday, April 1, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cancer Research Institute in memory of Robert J. Smith.
