Robert “Bobby” Botz died peacefully May 18 after a brief illness. Born in Elyria, Ohio, Bobby grew up on the family farm minding animals and spending long days outside, and also discovering a passion for music. He graduated from Garfield Heights High School where he was a part of the band, and joined the U.S. Army. After leaving the military he headed to the shores of Florida, fulfilling a dream to live by the ocean while working as a musician and handyman. He later returned to Ohio where he continued his music career playing saxophone in various Northeast Ohio bands, including Sgt. Jack’s Night Watch, until retirement. He is survived by his longtime partner, Doris, family and friends. Bobby is remembered as a loyal and generous friend, and someone whose quick sense of humor and tough exterior masked a soft-hearted romantic.
