Robert Winfred Bowman

Robert Winfred Bowman, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at River Ridge in Avon on November 28, 2025. Bob was born in Hartford and raised in West Hartford, where he fell in love with his high school sweetheart. He and Jan married and raised their family there. He was a very loving husband and father and was happily married for 25 years before he was widowed. He found love again and soon remarried. He and Ginnie built a lakeside home in East Haddam which they enjoyed for several years. Later they moved to Newport, Vermont and built a beautiful log home on Lake Memphremagog which they loved dearly.
Bob worked for Travelers Insurance for 41 years, where his dedication, reliability, and easygoing nature earned him the respect of colleagues and friends. He built a life marked by hard work, adventure, and a warm, unmistakable sense of humor. Known for his quick wit and playful pranks, Bob brought laughter wherever he went. He also believed in giving back and volunteered in his community throughout his life.
After being widowed for a second time in his early 90's, he moved back to CT to be closer to his family. He enjoyed frequent visits from his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces. Bob often reminisced fondly about his family roots in Vermont, sharing stories that connected generations. Family jokingly credited his remarkable longevity to a steady supply of Stew Leonard's chocolate chip cookies and a nightly glass of wine.
He leaves behind his daughter Karen and her husband Neil Denowitz; his son Lee and his wife Paula; and his daughter Wendy and her husband Barry Schmaling. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Johanna; Aaron and his wife Stacey; Michelle and her husband KC; Paul and his wife Danae; Nathan, Dylan, Tracey, Karyn and her husband Steve, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob's legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Madison, Avery, Georgie, Ida, Rachel, and Danny.
He was predeceased by his sisters Dottie and her husband Herb Bland, Nancy and her husband George Rutherford, and his sister-in-law Shirley and her husband Bob Voorhies.
