Robert James Braa, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the VA Nursing Home in Yuma, Arizona. Surrounded by love and honored with military tradition-including flag draping and the playing of taps-his final moments reflected the grace and strength with which he lived.
Robert proudly served 26 years in the United States Army, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 3. His military career included assignments in France, Vietnam, Texas, Georgia, Germany, and Utah. As a Medivac Pilot, he completed two tours in Vietnam, demonstrating courage and resilience in the face of danger. After retiring in 1979, Robert transitioned to life on the road as a full-time cross-country truck driver.
He served his fellow veterans and community as a VFW White Hat Commander with Post 769 in Yuma, Arizona, beginning in 1999.
In 1963, Robert married his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife, Jean Celine Debuck. Together they raised five children:
Maria Louise Braa (George Toth) – daughter: Megan
Theophil James Braa
Monica Jea Braa (Thomas Hall) – children: Robert Joseph Hall and Sarah Marie Hall
Patricia Braa (Steve Gotthmann) – children: Robert Fink and Jennifer Fink
Anne Kaye Braa (John Loran) – children: Craig Loran (deceased), Crystal Halin, Candace Loran, Sean Loran, Allie Loran
Robert was a man of deep Christian faith. Psalms 91 and Isaiah 40:31 were among his favorite scriptures. He taught his children to read the Bible and lived with honor, humility, and true grit. He had a passion for photography, played the Native American flute, and loved camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, archery, and four-wheeling in their quad. His adventurous spirit and artistic soul brought joy to those around him.
Robert will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and resilience. He leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
