Mr. Robert S. Brookover, Jr. passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Stafford Hospital Center. He was born on April 3, 1925 in Coatesville, Pa. to Robert S. Brookover, Sr. and Mary Collins Brookover.

Mr. Brookover was among the first wave of Marines to hit the beach in Okinawa on Easter Sunday 1945. Later, he went on to China as part of the Occupational Forces.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, he started two businesses in Woodbridge, Va. and is a past President of the Woodbridge Lions Club with 25 years of perfect attend-ance. Throughout his life, he served in Little League Baseball, was an avid golfer and fisherman, and enjoyed boating on the Potomac. He is also a former member of the Dumfries Town Council. A lifelong Methodist, Mr. Brookover was a member of Ebenezer UMC.

Mr. Brookover is predeceased by his parents as well as a grandson, Christopher David Brookover.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Burnett Brookover; two sons, the Rev. Robert S. Brookover, III of Tampa, Fla. and William D. Brookover of Stafford, Va. and a daughter, Barbara E. Cavalier also of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren: Robert Brookover, IV, of Clemson, S.C., William Brookover, of Virginia Beach, Michael Brookover, of Stafford, Corey McKeown, of Tampa, Fla., Andrew, Matthew and Meredith Cavalier, of Stafford; seven great-grandchildren; Rachel and Brittany Brookover, Lauren and Patrick McKeown, Emma and Abigail Brookover, and Finn Brookover.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 161 Embrey Mill Road Stafford, Va. A Celebration of Life, officiated by the Reverend Mark Miller, will follow at 7:30 p.m. Inurnment will take place on Thursday, July 2nd at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va. at 11 a.m. with military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Aquia Harbour Rescue Squad or Ebenezer United Methodist Church Building Fund. Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service are in charge of the arrangements.

Eleanor, Betty and I are very saddend by the passing of Bob. We have always cherrished the wonderful times we had camping and motorhoming together. Bob was an inspiration to many of us. We will miss antics, laughter and jokes. Please stay well and take care.
