McDonald Keohane Funeral Home - SouthRobert F. Brooks, 87, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family in his home. Fittingly, he departed this life on his birthday, closing a chapter defined by faith, devotion, hard work, and deep love for family.
Born on February 25, 1939, in Dorchester, Robert (Bob) was the beloved son of the late John and Josephine (Emery) Brooks. Raised in a proud and faithful family, he was educated through St. Peter’s Parish and attended Dorchester High School before enlisting in the United States Army. His time in the Army helped shape the discipline, resilience, and sense of duty that would define his life.
After his military service, Bob joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, working hard to provide for his future family. Soon after, he proudly followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Boston Fire Department. Dedicated to both service and self-improvement, Bob pursued higher education while working full time, attending Bunker Hill Community College to further his studies. His commitment to learning helped him grow his career and rise through the ranks. Over the course of his distinguished service, he became Captain of Ladder 1 in the North End and ultimately retired as District Chief. He was deeply respected for his leadership, courage, and unwavering commitment to protecting the people of Boston.
Bob met the love of his life, Lorelyn, while visiting Cape Cod. He won her heart through their shared love of the Boston Bruins, their deep Catholic faith, and their dream of raising a large family. Together they settled in North Weymouth, where they purchased an ocean side cottage and, through determination and sacrifice, transformed it into a warm and welcoming home for their nine children.
Through long hours, multiple jobs, and steadfast dedication, Bob provided for his family while Lorelyn devoted herself to raising their children. Their shared faith was their foundation and guiding force. Bob was an active and devoted member of St. Jerome Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, helped grow the school’s basketball program, and formed lifelong friendships within the church community.
Family was everything to Bob. Nothing brought him greater pride than becoming “Grampy” to his 22 grandchildren. He delighted in passing down his skills, offering steady guidance, and even teaching many of them how to drive. His legacy will live on through Marc Jr (Jessica), Taylar, Nicholas, Bobby, Lauryn, George, Tommy, Brian, Kristina, Megan, Andrew, Erin, Jake, Katelyn, Luis, Ava, Victoria, Brooke, Emery, Kendall, Gisele, and Kristen.
Bob lived a full and meaningful life. He will be remembered as a selfless man, a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a true family man. His strength, faith, and quiet acts of service will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
Bob is predeceased by his cherished wife Lorelyn Brooks (Schmidt). Loving father of Robin Spinella and husband Marc of Weymouth, Robert Brooks, Jr. and wife Lisa of Plymouth, Brian Brooks and wife Lee of Weymouth, Brenda Carney of Hanover, Bernadette Brooks of Weymouth, Michael Brooks and wife Shannon of E. Bridgewater, Mary Duclos and husband Michael of Abington, Dennis Brooks of Weymouth, and David Brooks and wife Amanda of Weymouth. Loving brother to Jackie, Dickie, Billy, Joey and his baby sister Donna. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Donna Brooks and Anita Brooks, along with many nieces and nephews who he cherished and adored.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 3/6/2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So.
