Robert Buckholz of 245 Woodward Avenue, New Haven died November 5, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Madeline Porto Buckholz. Born in New Haven June 8, 1928 to the late Joseph and Amelia Hahl Buckholz, Bob worked in management for the Southern New England Telephone Co. for 42 years before retiring. He served the New Haven community as a member of the Board of Aldermen, Board of Finance, Police Commission and as a member of the New Haven Coliseum Authority.He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Church for 60 years and served on the Parish Council and Finance Board. He was active in the Annex Little League and the Boy Scouts. Besides his wife Madeline, Bob is survived by his children Susan Buckholz (Jim Dow), Diane (Tom) Dykes, Lizabeth (John) Rafter, Jo-Ann Buckholz, Robert Buckholz (Anne Elizabeth Fontaine), John (Tina) Buckholz and Richard (Michelle) Buckholz; his brothers Donald and Julius Buckholz and his grandchildren John, Whitney, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Quentin, TJ, Sarah, Jesse, Madeline, Robert, Carly, Jude, Zeke, Claire, Olivia, Natalie, Andrew, Samantha, Amelia, Ryan and Matthew. The Buckholz family wishes to thank Francine O'Brien, Pablo Garcia and Frank Gambardella for their care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 in St. Bernadette Church. Burial will be privately held. The family will receive friends at their home, 245 Woodward Avenue, Tuesday from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, Office of Development, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. The Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. is in care of arrangements.
