Robert Alexander Burgess, 90, left this world to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He peacefully passed away at home.
Robert was born July 17, 1933 in Charlotte, NC to the late Mallie Oncie Burgess Sr. and the late Bertie Lee Cochrane Burgess.
He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Horace Odell Burgess, and M.O. Burgess, Jr.
Robert was such a kind, generous, and loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. If he could help you in any way, he would stop what he was doing with his own work and help you with yours. He took great pride in his work and all he did, he did to the glory of God.
He lived in Midland, NC for many years and spent the last 12 years in Concord. Robert enjoyed being outdoors and loved tending to his garden and orchard until his health prevented him from doing many of his tasks. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. Everyone who knew him loved him. Robert was a man of many talents; he played banjo and guitar and could often be found picking and playing gospel bluegrass.
Robert spent two years in the Army serving in Germany during the Korean War where he was a mechanic. He worked as a crane operator and moved on to work in concrete construction. Before he retired, he was a foreman for an erection crew setting large concrete buildings and parking decks. He always worked WITH his men, helping them with their own work.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Alice Faye Mingus Burgess of Concord, NC; daughter, Robin Burgess Pope, (Randy); son, Bobby Burgess, (Kathe); grandchildren, Lacey Burgess Hatley, (Jonathan), Ashlee Burgess Poplin, (Brandon), Haley Burgess, Tiffany Pope, Teniah Pope Howell, (Travis), Carley, Chloe, Curtis, Cecily and Claire Pope; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Olivia, and Waylon Hatley, Bentley and Hayden Poplin; special niece, Pam Burgess Porter; and many other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Parkwood Baptist Church, Concord. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Michael Waters. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Concord.
Memorials may be made to Trellis Hospice Care of Rowan County or Parkwood Baptist Church.
