Robert Burton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vansant-Mills Funeral Home - Clinton on Jan. 6, 2026.
Robert "Bob" Lee Burton passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2025 at his home in Clinton, Missouri at the age of 85.

Robert was born on January 2, 1941, in Appleton City, Missouri to Troy David and Adell (Cooper) Burton. After graduating High School in 1959, He quickly set his sights on greener grasses. He married Carole Jean Wilson on February 14, 1960 and they moved to Butler, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, Springfield, Missouri, and Minneapolis, Minnesota before finally settling in Aurora, Colorado. Robert owned and operated a successful turn-key apartment services business there until his retirement.

Robert lived a life filled with love, laughter, and music. He had a passion for listening to all genres and, whether it was Funk, Classic Rock or something eclectic he'd just learned about…he enjoyed music with his entire being. Phone conversations with him often went something like this, "Hi! How are you? Who are you listening to these days?"

Robert was a true connoisseur of fashion with his styles ranging from GQ…Mister Brown! In addition to tunes and tight threads, he had an affinity for nice cars and swore that he once gave Doris Day (yes THE Doris Day), who was stranded along the roadside, a lift to her destination in his new 1974 yellow Volkswagen Beetle. The jury is still out on that one.

Lastly, Robert loved animals, especially Siamese cats. None more so than his beloved Pyewacket…named after the cat in the 1958 film, "Bell, Book and Candle".

Bob was known for his quick wit and his ability to make anyone laugh. He had a way of turning even the most mundane moment into a memorable one, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory and continue his musical legacy are his Daughter, Terri Dixon and wife Bridget Dixon of Lawrence, Kansas: Son, Payton Pitt, of Salina, Kansas: Two grandchildren, Lilian Dixon and Quincy Dixon: Brother, Anthony "Tony" Burton of Clinton, Missouri: four Sisters, Antoinette Young of Springfield, Missouri: Beverly Parrish of Clinton, Missouri: Jackie Burton of Springfield, Missouri: Sherie and husband Glenn Adams of Springfield, Missouri: a host of nieces and nephews: Step-son, Greg Wilson and the Wilson Family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Adell Burton: sister, Carlene Burton Ferguson: his wife, Carole Jean Burton and his favorite furry friend, Pyewacket.

Robert's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Bob, and may your music collection play on for eternity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests listening to your favorite song…and taking the time to truly appreciate it.
