Robert W. Butler Jr.

Robert W. Butler, Jr. of Naugatuck, formerly of Mahopac, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, April 15, 2022. He was born in Yonkers, NY on February 17, 1959 to Robert W. Butler and Marisa (Benvenuto) Butler. He spent his childhood in Yonkers, NY, Yorktown Heights, NY and the majority in Mahopac, NY, graduating from Mahopac High School in 1977. While at Mahopac High school, Bob shone in sports including Varsity Soccer and Varsity Track & Field. He was elected President of MOST (the student council). He was in the Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts on up to Eagle Scout. He enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone in the band, orchestra and marching band and singing in the chorus. He also excelled academically, being admitted to the National Honor Society. He was accepted at multiple colleges and universities, some with full scholarships, and he ultimately decided to attend Dartmouth College.
Bob loved his time at Dartmouth College, where he earned his degree in Economics and Engineering. While at Dartmouth, in addition to his studies, he participated in the marching band and glee club, served as the College's head tour guide where he met with prospective students, and was a member of Delta Psi Delta/HPF fraternity. He made annual trips back to Hanover, NH to attend Homecoming games with his friends from his fraternity and other College friends. If Dartmouth was playing a game locally, whether football or ice hockey, Bob would be there joining his friends and enjoying the sports. With the arrival of every spring, Bob enjoyed rooting for his New York Yankees.
After graduating from Dartmouth College, Bob joined his father working at General DataComm where he worked for almost 23 years, working his way up to positions such as Manager Marketing and Administration, to Manager Budgets and Analysis, to Manager Treasury and Contracts. While at GDC, Bob studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning his MBA in Marketing in 1996.
Bob was active locally, serving on his condominium board, and, starting in 2010, serving as Finance Board Chairman for the Borough of Naugatuck for three years. After leaving GDC in 2012, Bob began working for the Borough of Naugatuck, first as Assistant Business Manager for the Naugatuck Board of Education, Controller for the Borough and Manager of the Naugatuck Event Center.
Bob made friends everywhere he went and went out of his way to always be there for a friend in need. He traveled and his favorite trip was his trip to Ireland, where he drove around the country and was able to visit several Butler/Ormond Castles.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert W. Butler, his paternal grandparents, Walter and Louise Butler, his maternal grandparents, Luigi and Caterina Benvenuto, and his aunt, Josephine Leonardi. He is survived by his mother, Marisa A. Butler, his sister, Anita Butler Allen and her husband, John W. Allen. He is also survived by countless friends from all walks of his life, whose friendships he cherished, and who cherished his friendship in return.
