He began his medical career as a U.S. Army Captain, Battle Group Surgeon 34th Infantry Camp Horvey, Korea. After two years in the military, he did four years of residency training, one general practice and three obstetrics & gynecology, Charity Hospital.

In 1966 he entered private practice in Houma at Terrebonne General Hospital. He remained on medical staff and retired in 2008 having served as Chief of Staff. It was his professional lifelong honor and pleasure to have participated in thousands of deliveries and med-surg care for the people of Terrebonne. The infinite value of all human life was his first commitment professionally as it was part of his Catholic faith.

In 1965 he and his beloved spouse Beverly Louise Lind, were married by Robert's brother Father Clair Cazayoux S.J., and began their lifelong adventure together. Their seven children are: Robert Jr., M. D., and spouse Kelli, James and spouse Jackie, Marie Louise Naquin and spouse Paul, Joseph Eugene and spouse Lee, Suzanne and spouse Cyrus Parsa, M.D., John and spouse Jeffrey Crawford, Lauren Morvant and spouse Jeffrey.

There are eighteen nieces and nephews and 4 Godchildren: Ann Marie Cinnater Naquin, John Steigner, M.D. , Maureen O'Connor, and Michael Cazayoux.

He was a third degree, life member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of council 9338, a charter member of Saint Francis de Sales Parish Council, and a member of parish state and national medical societies. As a member of local Mardi Gras Krewes, he was proud to present his three lovely daughters as maids of the courts at numerous tableaus and balls.

His limited leisure time was allocated to family, woodworking, yard work and reading. There were numerous summers at Grand Isle camp the "Seven C's" with the children and fishing for bull reds and trout from the Boston Whaler with the boys. After retirement there was foreign travel with Beverly. Eventually he became physically incapacitated due to spinal stenosis.

Beverly and the Cazayoux children are forever grateful to his caregivers Sherry Bolden, Patricia Lewis, Tammi Triggs, Shandra Bell, Ciara Lewis, Denise Smith, Patsy Wyre and Sheila Williams.
