Robert Cheeseman Obituary

Cheeseman - Robert J., 85, On September 4. A longtime resident of Wantagh. Retired to Westhampton and the Villages, FL. Born in Brooklyn on July 23, 1940, to James Cheeseman and Mary Ryan; the youngest of five children. He was a proud son of immigrant parents from Newfoundland. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lorraine. Survived by his four loving children, Kara (John), Robert (Patricia), Matthew (Laura), and Kristin; as well as 10 wonderful grandchildren. He graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, in 1957 and joined the FDNY in 1962. He retired in 2000, as a Deputy Chief, after 38 years of service. He was awarded the FDNY Emerald Society Medal in 1971, for risking his life to save two children from a burning building. Bob loved to travel, play golf and visit Disney World with his family. He believed in Jesus Christ, his family, the power of compound interest, the American Dream and that strong unions are the backbone of the American middle class. He had a great sense of humor. He was most proud of his family. He set a fine example as a husband, father, grandfather and firefighter. He will be missed. Visitation Thursday, September 11, from 4pm to 8pm at Wantagh Abbey, 3374 Park Ave., Wantagh. Service Friday, at 10am at Bellmore Presbyterian Church, 2740 Martin Ave., Bellmore, NY.
