Robert Clokey, Jr., a loving family man, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023, in Salem, Oregon. Born on November 27, 1943, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Jessie Maez Clokey and Robert Garcia Clokey, Sr., Robert lived a fulfilling life marked by faith in his Savior Christ Jesus, service, creativity, and a deep love for his family and community.
Upon moving to California, Robert attended Inglewood High School. He grew up with his siblings, Herman, Freddie, Tommy, Anna and Jose. Following high school, he served his country with honor in the United States Navy during Vietnam as a Boatswain. His service was a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country. After his military service, Robert embarked on a career in carpentry with the El Segundo School District. His handy skills and attention to detail were evident in the quality of his work. He later transitioned to an Electromechanical Technician role with Hughes Aircraft, where he continued to demonstrate his technical prowess and commitment to excellence. Robert was a member of the Electronic and Space Technicians Local 1553. He retired in 2005.
Robert married Patricia Vandever after serving his country. During this marriage, their son Robert, III was born. He also became a step-father to Sheila Gore Woodsmall.
Robert married Heather Goodwin on September 10, 1976. They had just celebrated 47 years of marriage. Robert's daughter Kimberly was born during this union. Robert was a loving husband and a devoted father to his children, Robert III, Sheila and Kimberly.
Robert and Heather moved to Oregon and joined Turner Christian Church where they made many friends and strengthened their faith.
Robert was a man of many interests, but his passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball was unmatched. He enjoyed watching the game. Robert also enjoyed playing Men's softball for many years. Later after retirement, Grandpa Bob as he was known, could be found on Hawthorne High School's softball field. He spent many days prepping the field, coaching and cheering on his softball girls. Robert also had a knack for building things out of scrap, creating beautiful wind chimes that resonated with his creativity and craftsmanship. He loved going on cruises, a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the sea.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Robert Clokey; brothers, Freddie Clokey, Thomas Clokey and Jose Clokey and his sister, Anna Clokey Ritchie.
He is survived by his wife, Heather Clokey; children Robert Clokey III (Olivia), Sheila Woodsmall, Kimberly Clokey; He was a proud grandfather to Jillian Woodsmall-Roebke (Kevin), Alexander Fink-Clokey (Jordan), Kaitlyn Woodsmall, Camryn Clokey, and Kendahl Clokey; great-granddaughters, Ashlyn Roebke and Eden Roebke; his oldest brother, Herman Clokey; Shellie Clokey (mother to Alexander, Camryn, and Kendahl).
Robert's life was a testament to his loving nature and his handy skills. He was a man who believed in service, whether it was serving his country, his community, or his family. His love for his family was evident in the way he lived his life, always putting them first and ensuring they were well taken care of. His love for softball and his commitment to coaching young players was a testament to his belief in nurturing the next generation. His ability to create beautiful things out of scrap was a reflection of his creativity and his belief in the beauty of simplicity.
Robert Clokey's life was a life well-lived, marked by faith in his Savior Christ Jesus, service, love, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched, the community he served, and the family he loved so dearly.
