Robert Coffin Obituary
Robert Louis "Skinner" Coffin, age 90, a native and lifelong resident of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts and devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandpa and great grandpa, and uncle passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 at his second home in Jupiter Florida.
Robert was born on September 26,1935 on Nantucket Island to Henry and Florence Miller Coffin and was raised on the island he cherished. He attended Nantucket High School graduating in 1956. Through his childhood years and high school he worked at the family farm and assisted his dad and grandfather at the golf course. After high school he served in the United States Army and later attended the Massachusetts School of Electronics. He began his career as a general contractor before becoming co owner and Superintendent of his beloved Siasconset Golf Course, still commonly referred to as " Skinner's". He was very proud of his role as Superintendent of the family golf course, a place that brought together many of the things he loved most: the island, the outdoors, and people. He took great pride in caring for the course and welcoming friends, neighbors, and visitors. For him it was more than a job- it was a way to honor the Coffin heritage, be part of the island community, and share in the enjoyment of others. He especially enjoyed his annual golf tournament, the Skinner Open.
Robert was devoted to serving his island community. He was a charter member of the Nantucket Anglers Club. He was active member of the VFW, serving on the board for the past two years. He was a proud Master Mason and longtime member of 57 years of the Union Lodge on Nantucket. In Florida he was a member of the Palm Beach Yacht Club and the West Palm Beach Fishing Club.
Robert's family was the center of his world and he took great pride and joy in watching it grow through the generations. Time spent together, sharing stories, laughter, and simple moments meant everything to him. Robert leaves behind his beloved wife Brenda Williams and his brother Henry Coffin and wife Cindy. He leaves his daughter Lynn Coffin Brendemuehl and son in law Steven, his daughter Pamela Coffin, his son Joshua Isaac Coffin, his daughter Bethany Coffin and fiancé David Blevins and David's son Thomas, his granddaughters Kathryn Coffin Brendemuehl and Kelsey Siciliano and her husband James, his grandsons Robert Blevins, and Nathanial Lenz. He also leaves his adored great granddaughter Madelynn Grace Siciliano. He is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, dear friends, Coffin family relatives, and countless other lives he touched in Nantucket and Florida.
Robert is predeceased by his beloved parents, his siblings Stephanie Coffin Andrew, and Mitchell Coffin, his former spouse Janet Coffin, and his cherished son Stephen Miller Coffin.
Robert lived a life deeply connected to the place he loved most- his beloved Nantucket, especially the village of Sconset. Surrounded by the ocean, a close knit community, and generations of family, he embodies the warmth, humor, and spirit that made island life so special. Known for his easy smile, wit, and love of fun, Robert had a natural gift for connecting with people. He never missed a chance for conversation, a laugh, or time spent with friends especially his friends at the Siasconset Golf, Nantucket Anglers Club, Summer House, Bar Yoshi, the White Elephant, Sandbar at Jetties beach, the VFW and the Rose and Crown. His warmth and genuine kindness made him someone everyone was happy to see.
Although he and his wife Brenda traveled the world, Nantucket was more than his home- it was part of who he was. From its changing seasons to its traditions and friendships, the island shaped his life and his memories. He carried a deep pride in his Coffin heritage and the role the Coffin family played in the Nantucket Community since the 1659. Life on Nantucket meant time on the water and the marina and from an early age he found happiness on the ocean whether boating, deep sea fishing, sailing in the Opera Cup, digging clams along the shoreline or scalloping in the quiet harbors each winter. He loved reminiscing about the days when he had his boats, the Forever Wild and the Nauti Native in the marina where family and friends could stop by for a cocktail. He will be remembered as being happiest with the salt air on his face, a boat beneath his feet, and a glass of chardonnay in his hand while carrying on the traditions of island life.
Above all Robert will be remembered for his joyful spirit, his devotion to his family and the way he made people feel welcome and valued. His love of life, laughter, his many stories, and love of Nantucket will live on in the many lives he touched. His heart and soul never strayed far from the fairways of the Siasconset Golf, the ocean breeze, and the people and the island he loved.
