Robert C. Conley Sr., a longtime South Shore resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was raised and educated in Roxbury and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Roxbury, MA in 1956. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War.
In 1960, Bob married his beloved wife, Hilda (Thorn) Conley. Together they built a life and raised their family, spending time in Houghs Neck and then North Quincy. In 2006, they made their home in Weymouth, where they most recently resided.
Bob dedicated many years of service as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Later, he served as Secretary of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), where he was known for helping educate fellow members about their benefits and guiding them on how to make the best use of them. During his time in the NALC, he and Hilda got to enjoy many trips to Las Vegas for postal conventions.
Bob had many interests and hobbies. He had a deep appreciation for sports collectibles and worked part-time at several collectible shops. He also enjoyed attending collectible shows where he would proudly set up his own table, always enjoying the challenge and fun of making a deal. On several occasions, Bob had the enjoyment of taking his grandson, Gregory, along with him.
An avid fisherman, Bob loved sharing his passion for fishing and passing along his knowledge to family members and friends. Bob and his family also spent many years camping. In their earlier years, Bob and his wife Hilda also enjoyed bowling and spending time in a couples bowling league. Bob also spent many years playing in a softball league, earning the title “Captain Bob”.
Among all of Bob's interests, some of his most cherished memories were the times spent watching his granddaughter, Samantha.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda (Thorn) Conley of Weymouth, his loving children Robert C. Conley Jr. and his wife Claire of Rockland, MA, William P. Conley and his wife Jen of Stow, MA, and Diane M. Ellis of S. Weymouth, MA, and his cherished grandchildren, Gregory and Samantha.
