Robert D. Cook, 83, of West Hartford, husband of Joline (Huard) Cook, died unexpectedly at his home on November 11, 2010. Born in Lewiston, Maine, he was a son of the late William and Louise (Tackaberry) Cook. With his parent’s permission, Robert joined the U.S. Navy at seventeen and served during the final years of WWII. He graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Class of 1950, and in 1952 took a position with Aetna Life Insurance Company, where he retired as a Director in 1989. He and Joline married in 1952 and resided in West Hartford since 1955 and enjoyed summering in Narragansett in their latter years. Robert was a former member of the Old Guard of West Hartford, Fernleigh Lawn Bowling, and the American Legion. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the Patriots on Sundays and loved spending his time with friends and family. Besides his wife Joline, he leaves two children, Kathie Brielmann and her husband James of Cromwell, and Robert D. Cook, Jr. and his wife Linda, and their children Bryan and Eric all of Barrington, Rhode Island; his brother, William Cook of Venice, Florida, and his sister, Mary Louise Abell of Simsbury. Calling hours will be held at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 4 – 5 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 5 p.m. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, P.O. Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492.
