I grew up with Robbie in the Melrose projects in the Bronx. Myself, Robbie, George and Bobby Hosey were always together as kids. We went to St. Adalberts school in the Bronx and usually played at Franz Seigel park or under the highway of McCombs Dam next to the Yankee Stadium or the surrounding area. We did a lot of dumb things as kids and I can still hear Robbie screaming after the many times that he got hurt. From the time he fell on a pointed fence to the breaking of his tooth sledding on the 153rd st. bridge. We played stick ball and football in the street at 155 st., down from St. Adalberts and as kids, we didn't have much but we always had fun. Robbie would love to listen to his radio at night to the Jocko, Rocket Ship show, even though he was supposed to be asleep. He was a handful for his Mom. Even as kids, Robbie knew no fear. We lost touch when we all became draft fodder for the Vietnam War and I didn't get to talk to him again till just a few years ago. I am saddened to hear of his passing but will always have fond memories of him. I share the grief of losing a great friend and wish his family members the solace of knowing that he is in a better place.
