Robert Decker Obituary

Heltonville Robert W. Decker, 87, of Heltonville, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born on February 15, 1938, in Dart, Ohio, to the late Robert W. and Ruth (Yerkey) Decker. On April 20, 1959, he married Mary R. (Oberholzer) Decker, and she preceded him in death in 2010.

Robert was a graduate of Athens High School in Ohio and was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #25 in Athens, Ohio, as well as the Scottish Rite. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Robert worked as a salesman for the Messenger Company, where he sold funeral merchandise. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and even built several motorcycles from the ground up.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carrie Decker; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary R. Decker; daughter, Mary Cathleen Chapman; and his parents.

Services for Robert will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, Bedford, Indiana 47421. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
