"Robert Despins" IRON MOUNTAIN - Robert H. Despins, 80, of 104 N. Merritt Ave. Iron Mountain, died on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Leo and Cecelia (Micheau) Despins. Bob was a lifelong resident and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1943. He also graduated from Dundon's Business College with a degree in accounting. Bob was an army veteran of World War II. He married Eleanor Clements of April 23, 1949, at the First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Bob had worked at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid golfer and a member of Pine Grove Country Club for 50 years. He was also a member of the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Friends of the Forest. Bob was active in the Special Olympics and participated in the Special Kids Camp at Lost Lake in Tipler, Wis. He is survived by three sons, David (Lori) Despins of Marinette, Wis., John (Valerie) Despins of Westerville, Ohio, and Brian Despins of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Mary Despins of Iron Mountain; two brothers and two sisters, Marion (Floyd) Olson of Kingsford, Leo "Joe" (Luella) Despins of Iron Mountain, Thomas (Lona) Despins of Superior, Wis., and Carol Ryan of Beaver Dam, Wis.; five grandchildren; Denise, Keith, Emily, Cory and Benjamin Despins and many nieces and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert George Despins, and by two brothers, James and Alan Despins. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will be at noon Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Robert H. Despins online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com. The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
