Cobleskill- Robert J. Devanny, 86, of Quarry Street, Cobleskill, New York died Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Capstone Center for Rehab and Nursing.
Born on March 25, 1937 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of Joseph Devanny and Marie Miller Devanny. He was a graduate of the former Cobleskill High School and was a life long resident of the Cobleskill area.
Bob worked as a bartender for Park Hotel, the family restaurant. He then went to work for SUNY Cobleskill, retiring from the Maintenance Department.
He served as a trustee of the Village Board and was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Bob was a 63 year member of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Lieutenant and Captain. He was also a member of the Fire Police. He enjoyed trains of all sorts and loved watching NASCAR.
On June 22, 1968 at St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church, Robert married Diane Osterhout. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2012. His parents also predeceased him.
Mr. Devanny is survived by his son, Kevin Devanny and his canine companion, Gunther of Cobleskill, NY; daughter, Mary (Ben) Woodhouse of Toano, VA; twin sister, Patricia Thorington of Cobleskill, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on 11:00am Monday, January 22, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, NY. Burial will take place in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at a later date. Following the mass will be a Fireman's Prayer Service and a reception at the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department
Contributions in memory of Mr. Robert J. Devanny may be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092 or to Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 697, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
