Robert Wesley Doney, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather died on Thanksgiving. Bob was born in Lamar to Flora Margaret and Wesley H. Doney, He spent his early years in southeastern Colorado before joining the Army and serving with honor until his discharge in 1963. He returned to the Arkansas Valley where he met and married his lifelong love, Mary. Together they raised two children, Randy (Catherine) Doney and Melissa (Aaron) Primmer.

Bob loved his family life, especially with the addition of his grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Ziva, Kenzie, and Shea. Bob’s life was further enriched through his great grandchildren, Madelyn, Lexi, and Kree.

Bob worked hard his entire life, as a long-haul truck driver, a bull hauler, and a local hauler for construction companies. He ended his career delivering newspapers in Swink, forever destined to be up before dawn.

Bob loved traveling and spending time with Mary as well as camping with his children and grandchildren. His fondness for the mountains created many memories of fishing, boating, and riding ATV’s with his family. He passed his love of hunting down to his son and grandsons and relished telling stories of his travels and past adventures. Known to all his people as a jokester, Bob had a special talent for sharing jokes with the younger generation, spinning stories, and finding joy in the simple pace of family life.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother, his stepfather, Homer Harrison, his brother, Bill Harrison, his sisters, Nita Brewer and Glenda Culver, his brothers in law, Albert Whatley and Ed Whatley, his sister in law Delores Ingram, and his granddaughter Abrielle.

Celebration of Bob’s life to be held Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Revelation Church, 1004 Adams Ave., La Junta, Colorado.
