Bob Dossett passed away surrounded by his family on February 2, 2024, at the age of 71, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. There was not a day since the August 3, 2023, diagnosis that he wasn't ready to take on anything this disease threw his way and he always had the comeback, "Let's Do It", when it came to surgery or treatment.
Bob was born April 23, 1952, at Goodfellow Air Force Base in
San Angelo, Texas, the oldest son of Robert Odell and Mary Jo Dossett.
Growing up in
Tyler, Texas, he attended elementary school, grades 1 through 3. The family moved to
Diboll, Texas in 1960 where he attended Diboll Elementary and Diboll High School, graduating in 1971. He went on to earn an associate degree in Metallurgy from Angelina State College in
Lufkin, Texas.
After working for several years welding for Lufkin Trailers, his dad, a Petroleum Landman and East Texas Oil Scout, encouraged him to learn the Oil & Gas Business. Bob became a second-generation Landman under his dad.
Bob had the privilege of working for Murff Bledsoe, out of Houston, Texas. Mr. Bledsoe insisted his new brokers come to Houston on weekends and learn the Oil and Gas business from attorneys that worked for the major oil companies.
After working for Mr. Bledsoe, Bob worked as an Independent Petroleum Landman in
Lafayette, Louisiana, where he met and swept Brenda Knox off her feet with a "Hello Darlin." They were married November 17, 1979.
Bob and Brenda left Louisiana and headed to Montana and Wyoming for the next Land job and Bob trained Brenda in the Land Business. They made their home in Gillette, Wyoming and later
Billings, Montana.
In 1984, Bob and Brenda were blessed with the most beautiful baby girl, "Amanda Lindsey, (Lindsey)". This baby girl spent her early years in the courthouse on top or underneath a table while Bob and Brenda researched titles. Lindsey watched and learned the Land business from her dad and others and now is a third-generation Petroleum Landman.
It was 1996 when Bob successfully passed the American Association of Professional Landman – Certified Petroleum Landman
Exam.
While working on a lease play in 1998, Bob had the pleasure of meeting Rasch Burns. Rasch became a great friend who introduced him to black bear hunting. Anyone who knew Bob, knows the passion he felt for black bear hunting as well as the peace and comfort he found in the Crazy Mountains.
Over the many years in Gillette and while working other land jobs, Bob and Brenda met and made many great friends which have remained a big part of their lives.
Bob is survived by his wife Brenda of 44 years, their dog Belle, daughter Lindsey Stinson (Jerod), granddaughters Dylan and Rylee Stinson, grand dogs Charlie & Millie, sister Terry Cantrell, sister-in-law Carole Mumford (Jim), nephew Brent Mumford (Lisa) and niece Jana Welch (Paul). Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert Odell Dossett and mother Mary Jo Dossett, brother Jay Dossett and brother-in-law Butch Cantrell, many other family members, and friends.
Please remember Bob as that guy who loved his family, enjoyed running title and who would also invite you to sit in his garage or shop and talk hunting, bear stories and politics, while having that cool beverage.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you honor Bob's memory by loving and spending time with your family, taking them camping, hunting, and fishing, or giving to the local animal shelter of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, 2 p.m. at Heights Family Funeral Home.
