Robert Douthit Obituary

Odessa, Texas - Bobby, born on February 12, 1942, in Odessa, Texas has passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. He was the beloved son of C.A. & Gladys Douthit. Bobby was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. His journey was marked by love, compassion and unwavering Faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. I do know our neighbors will miss seeing him patrolling the neighborhood on his golf cart. He loved his cart. I was at times concerned he was bothering them because on several occasions I would see him talking to them. I would tell him not to bother them because they were busy working, then he would say they started talking to me first. I would simply laugh and say, "I know, but just be aware they are busy." He loved talking to everyone. He missed working so he would visit every chance he could. He loved his neighbors. We will miss him terribly. He was the most loving man and loved his family dearly. He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa in 1961. He then attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. He owned and operated Bob Douthit Movers for about 40+ years and was very successful. He moved George HW Bush's house on 17th street to UTPB. He also moved The Depot to the Barn Door location on Grant St. in 1975, just to name a few. Bobby was the 3rd Generation on his family of house movers. In 1917, his grandfather Toy Douthit moved small bunk houses for West Texas Oilfields with teams of horses. When he was growing up his dad C.A. Douthit moved houses and taught him until he started his own company. The Douthit Families House/Mobile home moving companies totaled 97 years in the Permian Basin. He owned & operated a cattle ranch in New Mexico. He loved to race horses in New Mexico, Arlington, Tulsa, and Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.A. & Gladys Douthit; brother, J.L. Douthit; Son, James Andrew Douthit; Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Surviving Family; wife, Ruth Ann Douthit; Sister, Ann Douthit; Daughters, Tammie Douthit, Angela Amor & wife Gail; Son, Toby Sanders & wife Tina; Grandchildren, Mason Urbany, Harlee Lynn Douthit, Kendra Lynn & husband Michael, Annika Sanders, Brooklynn Sanders, Shelsea Wooten & husband RJ; Great Grandchildren, Sophia Lujan, Andrew James Douthit, Kylee, Ariel, and Trinity Wooten. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 11/18/2025 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Sunset Memorial. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, 11/19/2025 at 2 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home following a burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. My husband and I were blessed by this man. He was selling and moving a few homes by Bowie years ago. I had stopped by to look at one in particular I asked him how much he wanted for it,he told me I said well I don't have quite that much. He said how much do you have I told him he said it's yours that was it. So between him and the Lord we had favor with this situation. It still amazes me that's all it was he kept his word so thankful for men like him. Prayers to all of his family and friends. Rip
