Robert “Ducky” Downing, 83, of Warsaw, left us on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 for a long fishing trip in Heaven.
Born on December 5, 1942, in Kosciusko County, he was the son of Loren and Eva (Secor) Downing. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1961 and then joined the Navy until he was honorably discharged.
Bob was the owner of Ducky’s Draft and Can in the early 80’s and had a long career with Nipsco as a backhoe operator, where he would retire. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his trips to Canada every year. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1126, American Legion Post #49, and the Moose Lodge #1423.
Robert is survived by his son Joel Downing, nephews, David (Valorie) Patterson, Jerry (Kathy) Patterson, and Larry (Linda) Patterson and niece Susan (Clyde) Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara (Patterson) Brilliant.
Memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to the Animal Welfare League, 1048 S. 325 E., Pierceton, IN 46562, and Celebration United Methodist Church, 1289 S. 250 E., Winona Lake, IN 46590.
Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.
