Robert R Duncan "Bob" passed away at his home in Colorado Springs on February 9th, 2023. He was born on February 19th, 1941, in Centerville, VA as one of 9 children to Raymond & Inez Duncan.
He grew up on the family farm in a house he helped build with his father. He had a very close-knit family and would often pass on advice he learned from his parents "Just be the best at what you do, and the best will always come to you."
He graduated from Luther Jackson High School in Merrifield, VA. During segregation, it was the only high school in the county where black students could attend.
He joined the Air Force in 1959 and later moved to
Omaha, NE where he met & married his wife of 49 years, Marcia Duncan. He served in the Military as a communications specialist for 21 years and was stationed in Alaska, Okinawa, Germany, New Mexico, and S. Korea.
While stationed in Germany, he purposefully took family trips to Spain, France & Austria so that his children could experience the benefits of interacting with diverse cultures and points of view.
After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a restaurant general manger at Perkins & Gunther Toody's where most people knew him as "Bob" Duncan. Many people would stop by for the sole purpose of saying Hi Bob, and to see his unmistakably warm & welcoming smile.
He battled dementia in his later years but maintained his great disposition throughout his struggle. It is a surprise to no one that the last picture taken of him, four days prior to his passing, is of him wearing his smile ear to ear.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Marcia, his son Phillip, his siblings, Dora, Wilber, Clarence, Sylvester, and Nannie.
He is survived by his sons, Robert, Christopher B. & Charles, his wife Connie, his sisters Evangeline, Cleo, & Elouise, 2 stepsons, 7 Grandchildren including "his Thera Michelle" & 3 Great Grandchildren.
No longer captive to the cruelties of dementia, our father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, our superman, is free to fly on a higher plane and shine his powerful loving light, into eternity.
The family will have a private funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 25, 2023, from 1-4pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in Colorado Springs. RSVP to Charles Duncan at
